Back at it.

For a little bit anyways. Time constraints prevented any jiu jitsu, then I got sick. At least it wasn’t bronchitis like it was a couple of years ago.

I was under the gun on Saturday, with a limited window for training. I jumped right in with Eric and a double round. I could feel the tail end of my cold still lingering. It may be just mental, but I also feel like my cardio drops like a stone when I’m away. I had one interesting position occur, where I was on top of his deep half. I underhooked his far arm, and thought about shoving his head and trying to spin around for an armlock, but I saw Tim making a Gable grip motion so I went for head control instead.

Next up I grabbed James, and had a decent round. At one point, I was standing vs his sitting guard. I stepped in, collar tied his head, and slid my knee through for a Marcelo style pass. He rolled away while I had an underhook, so I transitioned to a kimura. He kept rolling, while I kept the grip, which resulted in him getting on top. I worked to convert it into a belly down armlock or to flip him over, but didn’t get anywhere. Tim mentioned later that I should have just sat to an armlock right off the bat.

Brandon was next. He mentioned that he saw my deep half position with Eric earlier and that I could have just spun around for the armlock there too. Later in our roll, I ended back in the exact same position as with Eric. I spun for the armlock, but Brandon defended very well and eventually got out.

JR was my last roll of the day. Twice I ended up in single x guard and tried to switch to regular X, and he stepped back to get out of it. We talked about it afterwards, and I’m not being tight enough with my single x, need to pinch my knees more.

Gilberto and Mason got the brown belts. Then I had to duck out to get on with other things.
