Open Mat Saturday

I was predictably stiff after Wednesday’s class. To be expected I guess, after my lack of routine.

I kicked open mat off with James for a round and a half. I got a nice guillotine in a scramble, but spent a lot of the time defending my feet. I was trying to play some leg lasso guard, but he’d sit back to try to foot lock. I’d escape that and he’d roll into a knee bar. And he did it several times. Guess I should watch my feet more.

Speaking of watching my feet…next up was Harris. Always both entertaining and frustrating with him.

I took a little break and then did a round and a half with New Guy Charlie. It was entertaining to take his back from half guard, let him escape, then point out how the underhook prevents me from doing that, then going back to half guard and test him. He seems to be a quick study. He’s apparently coming to class constantly.

Next up was Brandon, which went better than expected. He’s always tough. I was siting and getting a drink when Damian told me to roll with Dr. Chuck, so I did. That’s always interesting. Chuck’s big. And he knows it, and tries not to crush you, but takes advantage of every mistake. I also had a fun round with Sarah.
