Not Dead

Just busy. Again.

Not going to class has been surprisingly easy. I may have been able to squeeze in a class or two in the last couple of weeks if I really wanted to, but it would have been pushing things probably too far. Balance between things is importance. Jiu jitsu is getting the short stick now, but things will fall back to normalcy. Eventually.

I survived the warm up, but I could feel the time away. Thankfully the lesson of the day wasn’t doing double legs for an hour or something.

We did some open guard work, specifically, defending against the double under pass. Immediately after our opponent goes to double unders, secure the sleeves, straighten your legs and raise your hips to prevent him from passing. Then hip out, thread a leg across his belt line, windmill in your other leg, hip the other way, windmill again and secure open guard. We also did two variations where he breaks a grip. Both end up in the no-legs triangle choke, with an omaplata setup.

For rounds, I had Harris, a new guy, Sarah, and Paul. Harris and I had an okay round. The new white belt, who’s name escapes me, appears to be in his first month or so of training. Sarah is getting better with her top pressure. I made a mistake with Paul and let him sweep me, so I spent the entire round on the defensive end of mount.
