More Half Guard

Big Tom has left us. Tim picked up where he left off.

We drilled the same half guard sequence as we did on Monday. Take the back & knee collapse sweep. I paired up with Little Bob for drilling.

But we didn’t drill very long. When in came time for rounds, we split into groups, then did a round robin, twice through. I had Little Bob, Long, and Tim, twice each for 7 minutes.

First round with Bob went really well for me. Swept, passed, mounted triangle. He rolled me, and had his hand in to defend. I tried to switch it to a bratoplata, but as usual, couldn’t recall which way to twist it to finish. And he popped out and the buzzer went off. Long and I had a decent back and forth, with him getting the better end of it. Tim tooled me.

For the second set, I was pretty tired after Tim, so I started off very slow with Bob, sluggish. I got some revenge on Long taking his back and almost getting a choke. He reversed me as I was adjusting my grip. Tim tooled me again, but I had same escapes. He said afterwards I’m doing everything correctly, it’s just he’s a step ahead, anticipating me. That just comes from experience.
