Knee Cut

I can’t keep this noon class schedule as consistently as I could evenings. Some days work just isn’t flexible. The good news is that my Saturdays are free again, so I can pick up that extra class per week.

During the warmup today, I had a interesting thought. Inevitably during a warm up period, I get the mental impression that I’m not going to be able to make it through the class. I can’t keep up this pace, I’m gassing already, I’m going to die, etc. And yet, I make it through. My realization today was maybe this mindset was a product of the change, or the rate of change in effort between being at rest to being active. That rate of change between minute 0 and minute 3 of (for instance) a run can be pretty drastic, going from 0% effort to 70%. But between minute 3 and minute 30, I’m only (typically) fluctuation between 60 and 80%.

Class was some options and review from the knee cut pass. We covered the ‘rude’ crossface, and then the shuffle to switch sides variations.

For rounds, I had Derwin for a 5/5 top/bottom roll. The last minute or two of our second round were pretty entertaining. He was standing, and I was attempting to pretzel sweep, and he kept breaking my grip, then he’d drive into me with his knee. I bumped him, which made him post with his arm. I grabbed a kimura grip, and he hid his arm to defend. I spun around, maintaining the grip, and then we did the following: belly down armlock, defend, take the back, defend, omoplata, defend, triangle, defend, omoplata, defend, kimura, defend, omoplata, but on the last one I had his ankle and would have finish it if not for the buzz. Nicely done on both of our parts.
