Closed Guard – Over Wrap

Building on the theme of closed guard cross chokes, we started with the over wrap variation, where you use their lapel tail over their back to break their posture. We actually started with a neat feint to set it up. Loop their tail over your knee, grab the same side collar low and loosely. They’ll posture up to break that grip, and when they do you re-grip and pull them down, then feed their tail around.

Then you can do the regular cross choke, or if they turtle up, switch your grip on the tail, post up on your outside hand, and reach in for their far side sleeve. Pull and kick and you’ll end up in mount. Or if you can’t get their sleeve, bait them with your outside hand, if they reach for it, you can armlock that reaching arm.

For rounds I had two with Black Belt Pat. Good back and forth on both of our parts.
