Tired, Sore, Gassed

I was really hoping for another technique night, but as I was walking into the gym, Damian was walking out, on his way home sick. He did mention he had a head cold the other day, hopefully it doesn’t spread.

So, Tim ran the rolls tonight. And man did I suck. I dunno if it was an off night, or if I was tired or what, but I was on the bottom all night. But now that I really think about it, I guess it wasn’t that bad. Sure, I was on the bottom and really didn’t get any offense going against anyone but Mongoose and Sam, but I didn’t get tapped too many times, except by Tim!

Speaking of Tim…we had an odd number of people tonight, so one person got a break each round. I was feeling pooped, so sat out one. And as I was resting, Tim and Nemesis Matt were going. Tim had him mounted, and Matt was just laying there. Tim was up on one elbow and drum his fingers and looking at me. I thought it was a little cocky and disrespectful, so I started yelling at Matt to elbow escape, buck, do anything to get out of there. He didn’t, and laid there for 4.5 minutes.

So I decided to take on Tim next, I could do better I thought. Well, I didn’t, on the surface anyways. He tapped me 4 times, but in each and every roll, I attempted to escape, and attempted to defend the submission. So while I got tapped and Matt didn’t, I sure was a lot more active in trying. A moral victory?

Laying in bed after class and thinking about how poorly I did, I recalled something. Damian asked Jeremy (2x All American and National Champion wrestler) about the percentage of matches won by the person who gets the first take down. It was something like 80%. And tonight (as most nights), I’m pulling guard and starting on the bottom, at the start of each roll. I’m going to try being more aggressive at the start of the rolls, and try to start on top. If nothing else, in the competition, that’s 2 points to start with right off the bat!
