Closed Guard Work

Two classes in the same week?! Hopefully I can keep this ball rolling for a while.

We did a light warm up, then a series of escalating drills. From closed guard, the bottom guy needed to break the top guy’s posture and hold for 3 seconds. Top guy only needed to open the guard. 5 minutes on each side. For each difference success, burpees. We then did the same thing, but allowed sweeps. Then again with sweeps and submissions. Then again with sweeps, submissions, and back takes. The burpee penalty increased too, starting at 2, then 5, then 10 for each occurrence.

I was paired with Wade. We were generally pretty even, but he edged me out in each round. I think I had about 20 burpees total to do.

We finished class with a chipper doing the same thing. My main highlight was at the very end. I came in vs Damian. I broke one grip of his, then re-gripped that sleeve, stood up, and opened his guard. Seemed easy. Maybe he let me have it because I did it right, maybe he was tired, maybe I did do it exactly right. No idea.
