Back in the Saddle

Mostly I guess. I took some ibuprofen, and went off to the fundamentals class. Just walking in put a smile on my face. Everyone was happy to see me again, and wanted to know what was going on, where I’d been, etc.

I explained to Damian about my ribs, what the doctor said, and my thoughts on how it happened. He was concerned enough that he agreed with me to take it easy.

So I stretched, chatted, and watched some other people roll. Matt and Tom were there, and happy to see me. The fundamentals was about the cross collar choke. We started with a quick review of maintaining the mount position. The mount is a position that is earned, and there’s no point in attempting a submission if you can’t hold the position. So we drilled that a few times. Damian complimented me, which felt good even though I felt rusty.

We then drilled the hand positioning a few times each from our knees. Tom and I got it down, but Matt was having trouble getting it in tight. We then moved back to mount to try it as intended and ran through it a few times.

I made a comment about how this is such a basic and well known choke, that there must be numerous defenses to it, but Damian said there wasn’t ANY. Once the first hand is in deep in the collar, the guy on the bottom is done for.
