Defense

I almost didn’t go to class tonight. Ryan dug and elbow or shoulder into my upper back on Thursday, and it’s still a bit tender. I decided to go and take it easy.

After warming up, Damian called out a couple of guys for a 5 minute match. The rest of us cheered and coached. The first match almost ended right away with a sweet flying triangle, but he couldn’t quite pull it off. The second match wasn’t nearly as exciting. Both ended up being decided on points. More prep work for NAGA and the Submission Hunt.

The lesson today was defense. Specifically, defending against the armlock from guard and from mount. I paired up with Matt, and again was a little frustrated with him. His technique is sloppy, and I spent alot of time explaining to him the proper way to armlock before I could start drilling the defense. I’ve got to start partnering up with other folks.

After class I took a breather and declined a couple of offers to roll, just taking it easy.

Fundamentals was the 5 Positions. Side control, scarf hold, north south, and then the reverse on the other side. I got paired with Nolan and we drilled each, and the transitions, and then did it again with some resistance. By the end of it, my chest was killing me from having his weight on me for so long! But Damian comment that both mine and Mongoose Mike have improved. We finished up with some grip breaking techniques. Control the grip, control the fight.
