I took a week off of the 100 Pushups routine, jiujitsu, and pretty much everything else while I was in Vegas.

This week, back at it. Banged out 100 Pushups Week 3, Day 1 like it was nothing. Surprised me a bit how easy it was!

Last night, back into the full swing of class. My rib isn’t 100%, but I figured I might as well try and see how much it acts up. Everyone was glad to see me again. I noticed that both Tom and Matt have earned their first stripe, good for them. Class was about sitting back to guard from the north-south turtle position. We did a couple of variations, which meshed well with the reversal Tim was showing us a couple of weeks ago.

The fundamentals class was the simple, push, and elevator sweeps. Nice timing, because my sweeping during our warm ups have just been sucking. I think I realized what I’ve been doing wrong. We also did a defense/escape from the “bouncer headlock”. There’s a really neat punch-block in it. Heilo was a sneaky guy.

100 Pushup Update

Week 3 of the 6 week program completed. I ran out of gas on Day 2, and wasn’t able to make the minimum requirement for Set 5. I did Day 3 as scheduled today, but upped the rest time from 2 minutes to 5 between Sets 3, 4, and 5. I failed at completing Set 3, but did hit Set 4 and 5 after taking a breather. Next week I’m just going to repeat Week 3’s routine again.

Saturday Self Evaluation

Made it through Week 2 of the Hundred Pushups routine. Even exceeded my last (max reps) set by 2 more than my goal. Tomorrow time to retest to figured out where I stand for Week 3.

My rib feels fine, as long as my core is tightened. Still a little sensitive to pressure. More than likely I’ll do the fundamentals class on Tuesday and Thursday next week, and work up from there. In the mean time, I’m still doing bodyweight stuff nearly every day, and the treadmill a couple of times per week.

The Jiu-Jitsu University book is a goldmine. I’m loving it so far.

Okay, I’m offically sick of this rib now.  It feels the same as it did last week.  Unless something changes radically, I’m going to atleast the fundimentals class next week.

Stretched and did my 100 Pushup routine tonight, and barely made it through.   It seems to ramp up pretty quickly.  We’ll see if I can make it through Friday’s sets, and then re-test on Sunday.  If I can’t, I’ll probably repeat Week 2’s routine again.

Jiu-Jitsu University arrived today.  What a tome!  380 pages of goodness.  It atleast gave me a little satisfaction reading some of it and flipping through the rest, even if I can’t go to class for the real deal.

I tried to go to class today, really I did.

Did some grip exercises at work today.  Nice little stress reliever when one is needed.  Did some interval running on the treadmill when I got home.  First time I’ve tried that.  I have to do it manually, since there isn’t a mode for it on our treadmill.  Stretched and did some light bodyweight exercises.  Today is an off-day for the 100-pushup challenge. . .which I restarted after realizing I screwed after only 2 days.   Silly charts.

Afterwards, I did an honest assessment of the whole rib situation.  And while I could probably do the fundamentals class, and maybe even pull through the adult class too. . .I decided to wait and heal up a bit more.  Better to temper my desire to get back into the groove, with a little caution.

Learning is not a race.

A bit of stretching, a bit of grip strength, another days worth of the 100 Pushup Challenge program, and some time on the treadmill.

Rib still is tender, but I think it’s on the up swing.  Depending on how it feels for the next couple of days, I think I might go to the fundamentals class on Tuesday.

The rib is feeling better, but still a bit tender.  I never would have thought I’d rather be doing a Smackdown, but it’d be better than being out of commission like I am now.

Worked some grip exercises at lunch today, and some bodyweight stuff tonight.   Including the Hundred Pushup Challenge.
