Situp Singles

So much for consistency. I really despise germs, especially this one that isn’t quite enough to make me sick…but is enough to have a head full of snot that makes it hard to breath and sleep.

I felt well enough to suck it up and go last night. I figured it was going to suck. By the end of the warm up, it already was.

Lesson of the day was a progression of single leg take downs from situp guard. Usually this would occur after our opponent pops our guard open. Rather than transition into an open guard, we can be more aggressive and sit up into one of these single legs. The first was the full version. Kick up, secure the leg, drive into him as we stand up, pivot and dump. The next was an abbreviated version. Rather than stand up, we pivot and dump right away. The last one was if he’s in a combat base position. Rather than do the single, we attack the far leg and collapse it underneath him. I drilled with Jason, and focused on keeping a steady pace.

For rounds we were split into groups of 4. I had Meli, a new blue belt Justin, and Teddy. I felt okay with Meli, keeping a decent pace up. First rolls with new guys are always interesting, because you never know if you’re going to get a complete newb, or a hidden world beater. Justin seemed green, and I dominated him with my usual kimura grip game. I told Teddy, as I did the others that I wasn’t 100%. He apparently didn’t get the message and spent a couple of minutes crushing me before bowing out with a little bleeder. Long jumped in in his place and crushed me instead for the remainder of the round.
