No-Gi Continues

Still Africa hot. But a break in the humidity is coming.

Tonight was no-gi open mat again. I skipped doing my 531 deadlifts, thinking that the gym area would be crowded, and it was.

Started things off with Short Josh, and we had a nice back and forth going for 15 minutes. Took a minute to get some water and foam roll one of my calves that felt like it was starting to get a cramp.

Next up was Greg. I started off arm dragging him into half guard, and then attempting to sweep or get to full guard. He immediately started working for a D’Arce choke.

I had a good half guard going, so I didn’t think that I was in too much danger as long as I didn’t let him pass. I was hoping he’d squeeze for a bit, then switch to something else when it didn’t work. I underhooked his leg too, planning on sprawling out when he released his grip. I did a bit of a side bend to pressure into him some, and then “pop” when one of my lower ribs. I let out a yelp and we both stopped. It clicked right back.

We paused for a while to let me revaluate. It was tender afterwards, but didn’t hurt, so we continued…and ended up in almost the exact same position. And low and behold, it popped again.

Okay then…that’s the end of my night. Sat and watched for a bit while I cooled off and massaged my rib. Came home and iced it some too. Hope that it doesn’t lay me up very long.
