Butterfly Passing

Class last night was a series of unusual occurrences. First off, it was Thursday night. I was stiff and sore from Crossfit on Tuesday, and tired for a variation of reasons…so…

I tried to do some strength work, but there just wasn’t room/equipment. Tim led the class, and we started off with a lot of static stretching and mobility work. Got the blood flowing with some takedown drilling, and then spent some time drilling a butterfly guard pass. We added in a slick mounted triangle choke at the end. I had seen it before, and attempted it here and there, but never have gotten it to work. And now I know why!

The rest of class was spent sparring. Gina had the women’s class there too, and we played winners and losers. I started off with Bridget, and we went for about 20 minutes to a draw. It was a good pace, and I played around with a bunch of different things. I had a nice wing choke-to-arm lock-to-triangle choke sequence at one point. I was just a hair too loose on the choke, I discovered she has Gumby like shoulders, and she popped out of the triangle because I was slow to lock it in due to my surprise over the previous discovery.

During our roll there was some drama between a newer guy and an regular. Apparently new guy lifted and dropped regular guy, and was a little too spazzy. Regular guy called off the roll and called out the newbie on how he needs to calm down a little. It got a little heated.

Next up was Amy, a zero stripe white belt. Who, despite looking like she weighed about 70 pounds and being an zero stripe white belt, actually had some idea of what she was doing. I let her work a few different things before it became time for me to go.
